At Dilton Marsh CE Primary School, PSHE is at the core of what we do and enables our children to become independent, resilient, healthy, inquisitive and responsible members of society, as well as developing the “whole child” intellectually, morally, socially and spiritually. Our PSHE curriculum equips all children with relevant and meaningful content, which is supported through a strong emphasis on emotional literacy, building resilience and nurturing mental and physical health. With an ever-changing society, we aim to provide our children with a strong understanding of the diverse world around them and support them in playing a positive role in contributing to the school and the wider community. Weaving through the heart of our PSHE teaching, is a commitment to enhancing and promoting our core Christian Values; Hope, Compassion, Respect, Perseverance as well as the need to be ever mindful of the role British Values plays in building responsible citizens.

Our whole curriculum is shaped by our school vision which aims to enable all children, regardless of background, ability or additional needs to flourish and become the very best version of themselves.
The central role that PSHE plays within our Vision and therefore wider school Curriculum, indicates how important we believe this is for our children. We belief that excellence in these areas will lead to excellence across the curriculum and beyond in later life.
In ensuring high standards of teaching and learning in P.S.H.E., we implement a curriculum that is progressive throughout the whole school and builds on where the children are when they begin their time in our School Community. We acknowledge that each child is a unique individual with their own set of experiences and emotions to develop and build upon.
We use the non-statutory national framework for PSHE Education and the statutory Relationships and Health Education guidance, as the basis for our curriculum and use the Jigsaw, mindful approach to PSHE to deliver it.
The planning is based on 6 ‘Puzzle Pieces’ or themes which are progressive across each year group. The ‘Puzzle Pieces,’ build on learning and experiences each year and reflect the need for children to also understand British Values as well as to consider ways to develop their Spirituality. All themes and skills of Social, Moral and Cultural Education are woven through the scheme of work for each year group.
We aim to ensure a variety of teaching and learning strategies in PSHE, including the use of art, drama, thinking skills, speaking and listening activities, visits, ICT use and other active learning strategies. ‘Calm Me,’ time is included in each PSHE session and Worship to encourage a mindful approach and to allow children the opportunity to be deeply reflective and consider elements of their own spirituality.
Jigsaw PSHE directs our aim on developing the “whole child” through a spiral curriculum approach to developing knowledge, skills and understanding in the areas of-

The impact of PSHE will be measured through the development of the Whole Child, through questioning and discussion, through observation of relationships between friends, groups and within the school community and of course from the child’s own observations of how they feel.
There will also be a more formal assessment of understanding, knowledge and each child’s ability to reflect deeply to answer and explain their thinking about the BIG questions of PSHE and spirituality.
If our PSHE Curriculum is successful then all children will flourish within the school environment in terms of their perseverance, compassion and ability to be reflective and think deeply in regard to a wide range of circumstances and opportunities.
Our PSHE curriculum will ensure that all children embrace their place in society and the next step in their education as confident, inquisitive and resilient learners with a compassion and respect for others and their opinions.
Through the development of progressive Health Education all children will be able to make the right choices to keep themselves and others around them physically, emotionally and mentally safe and secure and will give them the confidence and resilience to seek or offer help when needed.
The development of progressive, secure and all-encompassing Relationship Education will provide all children with the emotional resilience needed to build healthy relationships throughout their lives and to take their place in society as tolerant, respectful and responsible citizens.
Personal, social, health and economic education (PSHE) are an important and necessary part of all pupils’ education. Through a planned programme of learning, we aim to provide our pupils with the knowledge, understanding and skills that they need in order to manage their lives both now and in the future. As part of a whole school approach, we aim to develop the attributes our pupils need to thrive as individuals, as part of a family and as a confident and caring member of the wider community.
Our school is committed to serving its community and surrounding areas. We recognise the multicultural, multi faith and ever-changing nature of the United Kingdom, and therefore those we serve. We also understand the vital role we have in ensuring that groups or individuals within the school are not subjected to intimidation or radicalization by those wishing to unduly, or illegally, influence them. At our school we embrace the British Values of: Democracy, The rule of law, Individual liberty, Mutual respect and Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs.
